Barcelona 2006

To celebrate my younger brother Russell' 40th birthday we had a long weekend in Barcelona. This is one city I have always wanted to visit and was not disappointed. Plenty of booze and even more walking!!! It really is a 'must see'.

Very Late Entry!!

This is very late as it was an event just on January 2nd and I have only just discovered the pics again!. The 'Brass Monkey Run' is an event run annually from The Vic(toria) Bikers pub in Coalville, money raised from the contributions is for good causes and this year was in aid of the Air Ambulance.
For the first time I took my youngest daughter with me on the Bandit. After 100's of bikers congregated on the Vic, a run around Charnwood followed and then back to the pub for a warm up!
All the pics were taken by Holly who found the whole event fascinating despite being frozen after the run! :->

Fused Glass Jewelry

For the last week my youngest daughter Holly and myself have been making jewelry for a school stall . This is the first time we have used the mini-kiln since our original trials (back in April) which you may have noted in my archives. Dichroic glass is an unbelievable material as it changes its colours and effects depending on how it is viewed and whether the light is reflecting or passing through it. This makes it very difficult to photograph as the camera does not respond as readily as the human eye and the sparkles are as elusive as the fairies to the photo!

Update on the 'Maggot' re-vamp

Progress has been even slower of late and after sewing a second seat cover (ouch ouch) she is almost there. I think her new style as a custom is much nicer.

Peterborough visit

Today I had to make a trip to Peterborough to get a quick renewed passport for my daughter Holly (at vast expense!!) since she is off to France next week and we had only just discovered her present one had expired!
This meant killing 4 hours waiting for said item to be processed.
Luckily it was a lovely day and a chance to see the splendid cathedral of the city where Catherine ( Katherine to be correct) of Aragon is buried.
The cathedral (once a monastery) is a fantastic piece of architecture and well worth a visit . Lunch and a casual walk around the pleasant shopping precincts and the river soon made the time pass.

CX500 Rebirth in progress

My trusty old 'Maggot' is destined for a new wardrobe since her frame was getting badly corroded and in need of a powder coat. Hopefully I will change its style a little on the way. First part is to strip her down, which I managed in two evenings so far.
The 'Bandit' will be use now during the Summer spell and it is a good opportunity to re-vamp the old one.
Not enough hours in a day!!!!

More Trials

Just a few more trial fusings from my daughter.. Holly.
Unfortunately my digital camera cant do them justice as it seems to put a blue cast on daylight exposures and using flash is tricky with the reflections. If I got my 35mm out I am positive could better!!
Anyway.. more plans are in the offing to start doing more ambitious stuff....lol
If only we had more spare time! :-)

Fusing!

I finally obtained a temperature controller off Ebay and now the Mini-Kiln is up and running. After initial trials ( and Holly insisting on melting anything glass to hand!!) we finally had a go at seeing what we could do.
These are early tests and some pieces didnt process well because of incompatibility but that was my fault in experimenting ... as usual! :-)
Holly has really taken to the craft and now I have some proper Art Glass we can move on.
I definitely need to make a bigger kiln now. This one is ok for jewelry size objects or small tiles but a 12" diameter unit would be much better.. better order me fire bricks... again!! :->

New project

Well.... coz of the orrible cold weather an such (too much much salt on the roads for the bike!) my latest project has been making a mini kiln for fusing glass etc . I am constructing a small furnace for casting but after seeing some of the work my girls have done at school I thought I would construct the mini kiln first. At least we all get to play with it! Havent produced any work yet as most of the time was spent making it over the last week.... stay tuned :-)
